Top 10 Superhero Movies That Are Misunderstood

10. The Wolverine

This movie is often seen as being underwhelming and one of the worst x men films. However, I believe it truly grabs hold of the despair and tragedy that is inside of Logan. You can especially see this in the beginning when he is sleeping and drinking in the woods. I love this new take on Wolverine they had in this movie which they are now expanding on in Logan (2017).

9. Suicide Squad

The most recent entry in the DCEU did not live up to expectations for fans and moviegoers. They claimed it was a corny, nonsensical movie. While this may have been the case, that was the whole point. It was supposed to be about all of these misfits coming together to fight. You must remember their intentions as well which do not compare to the typical hero. Also, I love the beginning of how every character was introduced in a music video style with a classic song playing in the background. I am not saying that it is a"great" movie but it was certainly enjoyable for comic book fans alike.

8. The Incredible Hulk

This movie is always overlooked mainly because it was a different actor. But, you must remember that it still takes place in the MCU. In addition, it is the best hulk movie we have ever gotten. There were great performances all around and the story was thrilling. The reason, most likely, that it did not agree with fans and critics was mostly because of the competition it had in the year it came out.

7. Iron Man 2

While I believe that Iron Man 3 is the worst of the Iron Man movie, most think that this flick is. The points don't exactly make sense though. People say that it is just a filler movie to introduce S.H.E.I.L.D which I disagree with. It has a great character arc for the main character, the introduction to war machine and S.H.E.I.L.D, and a terrifying new villain.

6. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Like the one before, this one was not as good as its predecessor. But, does that mean it is bad? People often consider this movie to be underwhelming. I disagree because I feel that Marvel was not trying to recreate its prequel. The movie has an obvious tonal shift in comparison. This movie has a darker villain and introduces several new characters. The movie sets up other movies very well and shows the Avengers slowly decaying throughout. However, it still stays true to its roots in that of charming humor and exceptional action.

5. Superman Returns

Probably the most forgettable movie on this list, Superman Returns is a reboot on the original Superman movies. It had a lot of hype around it before it came out as people expected groundbreaking action and fights. But, instead people got a more character driven movie. So, people disliked the movie and said it was just too boring. Just because it is a superhero movie, does not mean that we need a ton of action. This movie had one of the best interpretations of Clark Kent ever and should not be considered so bad.

4. Man of Steel

Like the previous one, this is a Superman movie. It retells/reboots the origins of this iconic character. In doing so, there is a fresh new tone that we had not seen before for the character. It brought such a realistic approach to the character that people, especially critics, did not enjoy. Critics did not like all of the action, darkness, and destruction that the movie had. But, this was all completely necessary to take on the difficult task of grounding this idolized figure.

3. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

This s the worst critically received movie on this list. Every time I watch it I try and see why the critics do not like it, but I cannot. This movie builds further upon the grounded and struggling Superman while introducing a dark, broken-down Batman. These two face off in what may be one of the greatest superhero showdowns of all time. The action, story, acting, and visuals were all superb and this movie is definitely misunderstood.

2. Watchmen

Everyone knows how much I love this film. If not, check out my review on it. But, not many people share the same opinion as me. They deem it as unfaithful to the comics and crammed. I would argue, however, that Snyder captured the true nature of the Watchmen novel and brought it to the big screen in a modern and innovative way. Unfaithfulness does not mean that the film itself is bad, so, it should be looked at as a piece of art rather than an adaption.  This is Zack Snyder's best film and contains some of my favorite moments in film history.

1. Star Wars Prequels

Finally, we get to our last one, which is none other than the Star Wars prequels. These movies are almost universally hated. I would even go so far to say that they "ruined" Star Wars for some people. Everyone says that they have bad acting and do not resemble the original trilogy at all. First, the bad acting is false. The thing that people associate the bad acting in the movies are with the dialogue. People here the Shakespeareanish dialogue and say "oh, that is such bad acting" or "man, he just ruined that scene". But, this is not the case. The dialogue is meant to sound like that for it is an alternate, more proper universe. In addition, these movies were not meant to be like the originals for they were telling a different story, which is the story of Anakin Skywalker. It delves into the darker side of the Star Wars universe and shows how the world we know and love came to be. These movies have some of the greatest choreographed fights and phenomenal storytelling as it shows Anakin's path to becoming the villain, Darth Vader.
