All of the Live Action Comic Book Movies of 2016 Ranked!

2017 is looking like the most packed live action comic book year in cinematic history, which is very exciting for fans of the exhilarating genre. That being said, 2016 used to be viewed as its successor is now. 2016 was the first year that we got movies from all of the three current universes (FOX's X-men, Warner Bros' DCEU, and Marvel's MCU). This exciting year has caused an abundance of joy, with a lot of controversy. Now, let's take a look at the six comic book movies within these three universes and rank them from worst to best!

6. Suicide Squad

This third installment in the DCEU was by far the biggest wild card of all the movies on this list. Some loved it, while many were disappointed. This movie lacked a good story, dialogue, and character development. However, longtime fans of DC cannot deny how fun it was to see these villains introduced wit their own classic song playing in the background. We truly had fun with this film, but, of the all star list 2016 had, it places at the bottom of our list.

5. Doctor Strange

This was, in my opinion, the biggest let down for me. Usually Marvel movies are unrealistically grounded in the sense that they make it seem like the stuff that is happening could happen among us. So, I would've liked to see more shock and unsettlement among the characters in their development to the revelation of magic. All of that being said, this movie had mind-bending visuals and great performances all around. There was a lot to be happy about with this movie even with all of the disappointments it may have caused me.

4. X-men: Apocalypse

This is definitely the most forgettable movie within this genre that was released in 2016. The movie followed the two greatest X-men movies to date so it had a lot on its shoulders. With some major story and continuity issues, this movie still captured some of what made it's predecessors so spectacular. It's time-stopping quicksilver scene, along with phenomenal performances by everyone, especially Fassbender and Mcavoy allowed for it to be a very entertaining movie.

3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Being a hardcore DC fan, this is the movie where I had the most fun. This movie made me so happy too see such a comic accurate Batman. It was almost as if Ben Affleck jumped directly out of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. In addition to Batman, we got more character development on this modernized and stylish Superman along with an amazing introduction to Wonder Woman. This movie may have a few small issues with its story, but it's hate is mostly all undeserved and should be viewed as one of the best comic book movies of the year!

2. Deadpool

Hilarious, action-packed, and romantic: this movie takes hold of a whole new realm of superhero movies. I do think Batman v Superman was a better movie. But, the pure originality and entertainment this film brought to me earns it the number 2 spot on this list.

1. Captain America: Civil War

Was there ever even a doubt? This movie has what all of the other movies have on this list and more! It has one of the greatest action scenes of not only comic book movies, but in film history. With the action being groundbreaking and all, there was still an amazing story that added so much more to this movie. It connected all of the MCU movies while still giving it a bit of a darker tone. This movie is up there as one of the greatest comic book movie of all time which is why it takes the number 1 spot as the greatest live action comic book movie of 2016. What do you think is the best?
