Jake's Picks for the Top 10 Superhero Movies Ever Made!

10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

This movie shocked viewers as it differed so much from its prequel. The Russo Brothers entertained us as they obtained a spectacular combination of action and drama while still setting up future movies.
9. The Dark Knight Rises

This movie is constantly overlooked due to the fact that the other two in the trilogy are so good. It is actually the perfect ending to this fantastic trilogy. It ends the story of Bruce Wayne as The Caped Crusader and opens up so many conspiracies as to what happened next. Also, how can you not be intimidated by Tom Hardy's Bane? His voice alone earns this movie a spot.
8. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Similar to number eight, this one is overlooked by many fans. It differs in tone from the first one but still stays true to its roots which consist of amazing action, charming humor, and an intriguing story. It has a more complex plot as it makes us question who is right and who is wrong. Thus, also setting up several other future movies within the MCU which is exciting.

7. Batman Begins

This movie redefined the way we look at superhero movies. It changed the tone of the genre to more dark and realistic. It is considered by many to be the foundation for which all of the superhero movies since were built off. I agree with this and would say that it changed cinema as we know it because we finally get to take comic book movies seriously.
6. Guardians of the Galaxy

Do you want a killer soundtrack with hilarious characters? If so, then this movie is perfect for you. It caught everyone off guard when this space adventure came to theaters and thoroughly entertained audiences by having these misfits come together and fight.

5. Watchmen

Now, this may cause some controversy but this is at my number five because it deserves it. It may even be one of the most underrated movies of all time. It slightly differs from the classic book which angered devoted fans of the novel. However, I think it made it a little more modern and innovative. Zack Snyder put his own twist on it with mind-blowing action and a very dramatic story arc for each character.
4. The Avengers

Was there even a question that this movie would be on here? It is the first time we get to see a group of superheroes fight along side on the big screen. Even with that, it still manages to have a sensible story, awesome action, and great characterization. This movie set the bar high for team superhero movies. Not to mention how realistic the completely CGI NYC looks!
3. Captain America: Civil War

Once again we have another Marvel movie. This one was highly anticipated because people were wondering how they were going to pull off this tonal shift. They did not disappoint. The Russos showed us that you can have it all. You can introduce characters while still building on others. You can have some of the best action scenes ever and still have it be emotional. I went in team Cap but came out undecided so I would say this movie succeeded in the ethical conflict for these characters.
2. X-Men: Days of Future Past

Finally, we get to the X-Men. Fox has been known to botch some of the movies in the X-Men franchise. But, this squeal to the also incredible X-Men: First Class knocked it out of the park. It fulfilled fans' dreams of seeing the great new cast combined with the classic old. Also, it had the greatest action sequence (yes, the quicksilver one). Within all of that, we got a very emotional Charles and Eric story-line mixed with some Wolverine too.
1. The Dark Knight

I know that most superhero movies are fun and action-packed. But, this one defies that stereotype by giving us a pure drama. Sure, this movie had some action and other superhero aspects. But, it was such an amazing movie, you forget it is about Batman. I like to think of this movie as a superhero movie within a drama instead of the other way around. Heath Ledger's performance was phenomenal, obviously, considering he is the first person to win an Academy Award for a comic book role. This movie went where none has before giving us a dark tone with very complex and significant themes that no average mind can grasp.
