X Men Movies Ranked

9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Origins had a lot of potential.  the movie was loaded with potential hit characters in Gambit, Wolverine, Sabertooth, and, of course, Deadpool.  This did not matter however, as bad choice after bad choice, like creating a Deadpool that does not talk, left audiences with an awful taste in their mouths

8. X-Men: The Last Stand

The Dark Phoenix Saga, is one of the coolest X-Men stories to pull from, yet Last Stand falls flat.  This movie made many mistakes like losing the ambiguity of magneto as a villain or antihero and having Professor X transmute himself into his brothers body, just to name a few.

7.  X-Men: Apocalypse

I was extremely excited going into this movie to see the true power of the villain Apocalypse on the big screen.  I left extremely disappointed.  The movie completely underused Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse and wasted a tragic tale of Magneto trying to fight the urge to be a bad guy by focusing to heavily on an ending that fails to pack a punch both emotionally and with action.

6.  The Wolverine

Finally into the good section of X-Men movies.  The Wolverine is far from perfect, but it delivers a very unique and introspective story of Wolverine that I can appreciate.  This was supplemented with cool action and a great performance by Hugh Jackman, that  overall led to a movie that felt like a breath of fresh air for the X-Men franchise.

5.  X-Men

This film belongs high on this list for its its precedence alone.  We have the first X-Men movie to thank for the current surplus of superhero movies we have today, and for the iconic roles it introduced us to with old Magneto and Professor X, as well as Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

4.  X2: X-Men United

X2 provides an example of a sequel that was better than the original.  This movies success stems from the cast that made the original so good, but climbs past it because of the more interesting and straight forward plot that truly allowed the characters to shine.

3.  Deadpool

The fact that Deadpool is not last on this list, let alone all the way up at number 3, is a truly astounding accomplishment.  For audiences to buy in to such a unique film that strays so far away from the superhero norm is a credit to Ryan Reynolds' and Tim Miller's understanding and devotion to the character.

2.  X-Men: First Class

The introduction of new and younger versions of the beloved X-Men characters served as a great change of pace for the X-Men franchise.  Michael Fassbender as Magneto was the perfect casting to tell the tale of Magneto's origins and eventual turn on Professor X.

1.  X-Men: Days of Future Past

Days of Future Past succeeded as not only the best X-Men movie ever, but also as a quasi-reboot of the franchise.  This movie was able to reset the timeline to erase some of those questionable decisions mentioned previously in the list, and still give the old characters a fantastic final stage to go out on.
